JCU Women's Basketball Runs Win Streak To Ten With Impressive Showing Against Capital

The John Carroll Blue Streaks returned home for the first time since January 29, and the comforts of home were apparently a welcome sight.

A 16-0 run to start the second quarter was the impetus for a 22nd consecutive home win and a 10th consecutive win as JCU posted a 79-52 victory over the visiting Capital Crusaders.

After a relatively close opening quarter (JCU led 18-14), the Blue Streaks outscored Capital, 25-11, in the second quarter to into halftime with a 43-25 cushion.

The Blue Streaks never took their foot off the gas and kept the intensity through the second half, scoring 36 points and holding Capital to 27.

Leading for the Blue Streaks was sophomore center Olivia Nagy, who scored 27 points with 13 rebounds and four blocks. She had 20 points at the half and began the game by making her first 11 field goal attempts. She finished the game 13-15 from the floor.

Junior forward Nicole Heffington provided a punch as well, scoring 16 points and recording nine rebounds. She also was the team leader in assists with five.

Contributing to the win was junior guard Abby Adler, who scored 10 points and recorded four assists for the team. She was 4-6 from the field, including 2-3 from three-point range.

As a team, the Blue Streaks shot 31-63 (.492) from the field.

Following the win, JCU advances its records to 19-2 overall and 13-1 in conference play. This is just the fifth time in program history that John Carroll has a winning streak that has extended into double digits. The ten wins in a row is tied for the third longest winning streak since the program began in 1970-71.

Cassidy Bosch was the lone Crusaders player in double figures with 12 points. Capital falls to 11-10 overall and 6-8 in league play with the loss.

John Carroll's 27-point margin of victory was its largest against Capital in the history of the series which spans 72 games.

JCU is back on the road to Berea, OH, taking on a familiar foe, the Baldwin Wallace Yellow Jackets on Wednesday, February 12 at 7:00 PM.
