Back in early March, John Carroll qualified its largest contingent of athletes in program history for the indoor national championships as seven Blue Streaks were scheduled to compete at the 2020 NCAA Division III Indoor Track & Field Championships.

However, a day before the competition was to begin, the meet was canceled due to concerns regarding the outbreak of CoVID-19.

As a result, he governing body of collegiate track & field - the USTFCCCA - has announced a change in award criteria.

Due to the cancellation of the NCAA Division III Men's and Women's Indoor Track & Field Championships, the Executive Committee adopted the following criteria:

  • Based on the selected participants for the national championships initially announced by the NCAA on Sunday, March 8, 2020, the following will be recognized as All-America for the 2020 indoor track & field season:
    • Individual events: ALL student-athletes declared and initially accepted into their event.
    • Relay events: Members of ALL relays who produced the performance that was declared and initially accepted into their event.
That means all seven qualifiers for John Carroll will be certified as All-Americans for the 2020 indoor season.

On the men's side, this includes Hayden Snow (long jump), Deven Ward (200-meter dash) and Ian Pierson (mile run). Snow, a senior, graduates as a seven-time All-American and two-time national champion over the course of his illustrious career. Ward, a junior, is now a five-time All-American. For Pierson, his All-American selection is a career first.

Four women qualified, including senior Nikki Linn in the high jump, juniors Maria DeLuca and Courtney Phoennik in the triple jump, and Lucia Cannata in the 60-meter dash and the 200-meter dash. All four are All-Americans for the first time. Cannata is a multiple All-American as a sophomore.

Head coach Kyle Basista and the Blue Streaks were ranked 20th nationally on the women's side and 23rd on the men's side according to the USTFCCCA polls released March 3.
