UNIVERSITY HEIGHTS, Ohio -- John Carroll University Women's Swimming & Diving rose to the challenge Friday night, as the team competed against East side NCAA Division II competitor Notre Dame College in the season home opener at Johnson Natatorium.

The meet marked the team's first competition since the new renovations inside the pool on John Carroll's campus.

In front of a full crowd for the first time since 2020, the Blue Streaks came out on top, capturing their second victory of the season in a 158-104 win.

John Carroll wasted no time in starting strong. In the 200 Medley Relay, John Carroll's "A" team won the event. Spenser Kale, Monica McKie, Bojena Gross and Anna Glass finished the event with a time of 1:57.05.

"The girls started off the meet strong by winning the 200 Medley Relay," said Head Coach Tanner Barton. "That set the tone for the rest of the meet."

In the 1000 Free, the Blue Streaks captured a second and third place finish with Lauren Spence and Kyleah Gaydos with times of 11:43.57 and 11:52.69, respectively.

The 200 Free saw a rare tie, as Ashley Lynch and Gwyneth Hamilton each tallied times of 2:04.70. Annamarie Habusta notched fifth in 2:11.87.

The 50 Back saw a 2-3-4 result for JCU, led by a silver effort by McKie with a time of 29.29 and a bronze performance by Kale in 30.08. JCU hit 2-3-4 again in the 50 Breaststroke, with Regan Gunzy (34.13), Bojena Gross (35.14), and Allie Geletka (35.14) doing the honors.

Danielle Turi wowed the crowd with a 100 Fly conquest, with a winning time of 1:03.53. Isabella Genise followed in third at 1:05.42.

Anna Glass and Rachel Halapchuk claimed first and second place in the 50 Free next. The duo touched the wall in 25.24 and 26.51, respectively.

The 100 Free also went well, with a 1-3 effort. Anna Glass captured an individual first place finish in the event with her time of 55.55, finishing two seconds before the rest of the swimmers in the heat.

John Carroll did not win the 100 Back, but did notch second and third. Audrey Prisby snagged second in 1:04.72 and Halapchuk secured third in 1:05.69. The 100 Breast saw a similar 2-3 finish, as Gunzy and Gross clocked respective times of 1:13.94 and 1:13.96. Genise and Lauren Spence kept the 2-3 theme rolling in the 500 Free, collecting times of 5:13.19 and 6:00.49.

In the 50 Fly, John Carroll swept the podium, with McKie individually taking home the top time, finishing in 27.56 seconds. The Blue Streak's swept the event with Gwyneth Hamilton and Danielle Turi finishing behind McKie with times of 28.95 and 29.31 seconds, respectively.

McKie took care of business again in the 100 IM, as she was crowned as the champ with a victorious time of 1:05.52. Habusta penned a third-place time of 1:07.41.

The night ended with a clear conquest in the 200 Free Relay. Glass, Hamilton, Panus, and Halapchuk combined for a first-place time of 1:43.78.

"It was great to be back in Johnson Natatorium and competing in front of our loyal fans," said Barton. "I am proud of both programs for recording impressive team victories after a difficult week of training."

The Blue & Gold will travel to Oberlin, Ohio, to compete against Oberlin College in a non-conference meet on Friday, Dec. 17, at 6:30 p.m.
