Women's Basketball Falls Short in Saturday Showdown at Albion

ALBION, Mich. -- A cold bus ride up north to Michigan led to a cold shooting day for John Carroll Women's Basketball.

The Blue Streaks dropped their first contest of the season, an 89-56 loss to Albion on the road.

The loss in the road opener drops John Carroll to 2-1 on the young season.

The Britons barrelled out to an early lead after the first quarter, 25-17. Albion fired up a 12-4 run to end the opening stanza to get out to the nice advantage.

The Blue Streaks outscored their hosts in an offensive second quarter with 47 combined points, 24-23. John Carroll owned the early stages before Albion roared in the middle and later stages of the quarter. A Maddie Pietwoski layup late kept the score at 48-41 at half.

Albion broke through in the third quarter, outscoring JCU, 25-9, in the third quarter, and then 16-6 in the final stanza.

Kaelyn Underwood led the scoring with 16 points, followed by 10 for Pietrowski. JCU returns to action after Thanksgiving at Denison on November 30.
