The Blue Streaks have some outstanding new minds on the coaching staff.
UNIVERSITY HEIGHTS — With an exciting season ahead, the John Carroll University Men's Wrestling team has announced a few updates with its coaching staff.

NEW COACHES

Bill Splete joins the Blue Streaks from nearby Mentor High School and will serve as the head assistant coach for the men's team. "Bill and I have known each other for many years and share many of the same wrestling philosophies. I am excited to have him reinforce some of the things I do while bringing some new and exciting ideas to the team on a regular basis," commented Head Coach Mark Hawald.

George DiCamillo returns to JCU for his second stint with the Blue Streaks. George was the graduate assistant during the 2017-18 season. As a senior at the University of Virginia, he was the NCAA Division I national runner-up at 141 pounds and was named the 2017 ACC Wrestler of the Year. "George will make an immediate impact. He is only a few years removed from competing at a very high level and will be able to push our lightweights to be the best they can be," said Hawald.

Tyler Johnston makes his collegiate coaching debut after previously serving as an athletic trainer at Chaminade University of Honolulu. "When I found out Tyler was coming back to Cleveland, I knew I wanted him to be involved with our team," said Hawald. "I've spent 22 years in college wrestling as an athlete or coach and Tyler stands out as one of the hardest workers I have seen. Work ethic and heart are contagious so I look forward to him positively influencing our team."

Garrett Lineberger joins the Blue Streaks as a volunteer assistant after a successful career at nearby Notre Dame College. Lineberger won NCAA Division II National Championships at 184 lbs in both 2014 and 2017. During those two seasons, the Falcons won the Division II National Championship under former head coach and current John Carroll assistant Frank Romano. "It will be great to have an upper weight coach with Garrett's resume," said Hawald. "I am confident he will have an immediate impact on our big men."

RETURNING COACHES

Kevin Shadrach, Danny Anderson, and Frank Romano all return to the Blue Streak coaching staff. According to Hawald, "I am fortunate to have these great coaches back with us again while bringing in some new names. We have a special group here and together we are going to guide the JCU to a very special season."

The Blue Streaks start the season against Lake Erie College on Friday, November 4 in Painesville.
