Jack Faron and Grant Gonya become the 14th and 15th AFCA All-Americans in JCU Football history.
UNIVERSITY HEIGHTS -- Two Blue Streaks have been recognized by the American Football Coaches Association as Division III All-Americans for the 2022 season. Offensive tackle Jack Faron and punter Grant Gonya were named AFCA Second Team All-Americans.

Both graduate students, the duo were strong leaders on and off the field to lead JCU to their best fall since 2019.

Faron anchored the offensive line at right tackle. Faron led an offensive line with little experience in the other four positions, and it all came together on the field.

The Blue Streaks averaged 38 points per game and totalled over 4,000 yards this season. Faron was also named D3football.com First Team All-Region last week, and First Team All OAC earlier this month.

The Lemont, Illinois grad allows just 2 sacks and 2 quarterback hit this season. The Lemont grad only was penalized once this year. Faron tallied a total of 32 knockdowns to propel a dynamic JCU offense.

Grant Gonya proved to be perhaps the best punter in Division III football this fall. After being the kicker last season, Gonya made the switch to punter after week one this season, and took off.

Gonya was named to the D3football.com Team of the Week three times this fall. He had 27 touchbacks on kickoffs, 11 punts inside the 20, and 10 punts of 50 yards or more. All of those conference leading statistics came while not punting in two games. Gonya would have led NCAA Division III with his 46.5 yards per punt average, but he fell 0.5 punts per game short of the NCAA's statistical minimum.

The Hudson native was also named First Team All OAC for the second year in a row, and was named Second Team All Region by D3football.com.

The two graduate students had all-time seasons, joining a strong number of Carroll football All-Americans, including Blake Herideen, who was the lone Blue Streak on the list last season.

John Carroll has now been represented on the AFCA Division III Coaches' All-America Team a total of 14 times by 15 players since the inception of the list in 1972.
