The Blue & Gold earned wins in the 500m, 1k, and pole vault.
BEREA, Ohio -- While the DMR team headed to Boston and the distance runners traveled to Michigan, a large portion of the John Carroll Track & Field program fortunately had a quick trip on Friday.

The Blue Streaks competed in the Baldwin Wallace Mid-February Meet in Berea on Friday, with some very nice results.

Several wins buoyed a good night in Berea for the Blue & Gold. The JCU men sweeping the 500m with a 1-2-3 finish, winning efforts in the 1000m by Amanda Keim & Ryan Kiley, and a conquering performance in the pole vault by Caroline Beery were the top highlights of Friday night's action.

Mark Zahren, Cam Klauke, and Zach Walsh tore up the competition in the 500m. Zahren led JCU's pack with a triumphant time of 1:10.04, a college best. Klauke climbed to second in 1:10.43. Walsh won third with a close time of 1:10.69. James Mangan also raced to a mark of 1:13.50.

Amanda Keim stole the show in the 1k. With a time of 3:13.07, the Lakewood native won the event. Kathryn Vasiliauskas nipped at her heels, racing to a time of 3:14.36 for second. Emmaline Hannan crossed the line at 3:20.35, tapping in at fourth.

The men's 1k followed with another JCU victory lap. Ryan Kiley won by almost three seconds with a top time of 2:41.91, also a PR by a wide margin.

Zach Szafarski killed it in the weight throw. The junior hit an indoor career-best with a heave of 15.75m, good for second. Matthew Russo claimed a conquest in the shot put, hurling a mark of 14.47m for first place.

Kelsey Dunn did solidly in the weight throw. The senior from Twinsburg tossed a 13.32m, snagging fourth. She did even better in the shot put, with an indoor-best hurl of 11.24m for fifth. Cara Jewett also shined in the weight throw with a PR of 11.41m.

Staying with the field events, Willis Goodwin secured second in the long jump at 6.42m and hit fourth in the high jump 1.70m. Corey Minton notched 6.26m in the long jump. Anton Peregoncev marked down a length of 11.91m in the triple jump.

Victoria Miller enjoyed a solid day. The Toledo Notre Dame Academy grad notched a 4.80m in the long jump for fifth, hitting a PR. She was oh-so-close to a personal best in the 500m, clocking in at 1:23.55 for second.

The team's youngsters did well in the field events today. Michaela Bryan struck a 1.53m in the high jump for third. Elizabeth Clemente followed in sixth at 1.45m, and Sarah Shreffler tallied a 1.35m. Olivia Stefka got great experience in the triple jump, as the freshman leaped to 9.38m.

Caroline Beery continued her strong return in the pole vault. The junior achieved a height of 3.35m (10-11.75), tied for her second-best leap of the year.

Taylor Anthony looked good in the 55m dash. The Perry native raced to third in the finals with a time of 7.48. Victor Ononogbo and Klauke both placed in the men's 55m, clocking in for fifth and eighth with respective times of 6.82 and 7.05 in the finals.

The Blue Streaks return to action tomorrow, with a significant contingent heading to Otterbein for the D3 All-Ohio Championships.
