Men's Tennis Rings in 2022 by Beating Shawnee State

MEDINA, Ohio -- The 2022 season started in sweeping fashion for John Carroll Men's Tennis.

The Blue Streaks hosted the Shawnee State Bears at Paramount Tennis Club in Medina on Saturday in the spring opener. The Blue & Gold kicked off the season in style with a 9-0 win over Shawnee State, an NAIA school in Portsmouth, Ohio.

The Blue Streaks left no doubt in the spring opener, firing to a clear victory.

Gustavo Garcia shook the rust off at No. 1 singles after not playing last season. The fifth-year senior fired out to a 6-4 win in the opening set before dropping the second set, 3-6. The Copley native corralled a 10-7 win in the tiebreaker for the win.

Logan Langovsky took care of business at No. 2 singles. The Green native tallied a 6-1, 6-1 conquest. Mark Beebe did the same at the No. 3 slot with a 6-1, 6-1 win.

Kevin Wacnik tallied his first win, earning a 6-2, 6-3 victory at the No. 4 spot. Grant Sarnowski fired to a 6-0 start before finishing it with a 6-3 win. Alvaro Rosabal snagged a 6-3, 6-2 victory at No. 6.

Garcia and Wacnik combined at the No. 1 doubles spot, taking care of business in an 8-3 conquest. Langovsky and Beebe formed a formidable No. 2 doubles squad, cruising to an 8-1 win. Sarnowski and Nathan Palinkas combined for an 8-3 triumph at No. 3.

Next weekend, the Blue Streaks will host The College of Wooster at Mayfield on Saturday.
