Women's Tennis Collects Win over Shawnee State to Open 2022

MEDINA, Ohio -- A busy weekend began on Saturday for John Carroll Women's Tennis with the season opener.

The Blue Streaks eased into the 2022 spring season with an 8-1 victory over Shawnee State University, an NAIA institution from Portsmouth, Ohio.

The Blue Streaks and Bears played pro sets in singles due to time constraints. Located on the Ohio/Kentucky border, Shawnee State had a 3.5 hour commute to Paramount Tennis Club in Medina.

Megan Reese anchored JCU at the No. 1 singles spot, and experienced a challenging match. Still, she persevered with an 8-7 victory. Mia Zivkovic needed less time, barreling to an 8-0 victory. Morgan Little grabbed her first win at No. 3 singles with an 8-4 win.

Caroline Chandler championed the No. 4 spot, and earned a victory. The Iowa City native tallied an 8-1 win. Jaclyn Voss also took care of business with authority, 8-2. Peyton Crumpler rounded out the show at No. 6 singles, 8-3.

Reese and Zivkovic played like gangbusters at the No. 1 singles slot, notching an 8-1 victory.

Meanwhile, Chandler and Little fired out for an 8-5 win at No. 2 singles.

JCU's lone blemish was at No. 3, where Crumpler and Voss experienced a narrow 8-7 loss.

John Carroll will now turn its attention to two very difficult matches tomorrow.

The Blue Streaks will do battle with Wooster and Carnegie Mellon, as the Fighting Scots will host. The Tartans boast two players ranked in the top 50 nationally in singles, and two doubles pairing ranked in the top 10 nationally (according to ITA's December 9 rankings).
