Women's Lacrosse Stumbles Against Allegheny at Home

UNIVERSITY HEIGHTS, Ohio -- In what was a back and forth affair on a misty night, the John Carroll Women's Lacrosse team dropped their second consecutive game to open the 2022 season as they lost 12-9 to Allegheny.

The Blue Streaks drew first blood with a goal from Alex Heishman midway through the first quarter. Two minutes later, the Gators responded with a free position score by Senna Perelman to knot it 1-1 where it would remain for the rest of the period.

Both teams exchanged goals to begin the second quarter, but John Carroll scored two straight to make it a 4-2 game with 5:19 remaining in the half.

The Gators clawed back and answered with two scores of their own to tie the game at 4-4 just before the half.

The action was plentiful in the third quarter as both teams combined for 10 goals, five lead changes, and four ties. However, Allegheny took control of the period with two unanswered goals to give them a 10-8 lead heading into the final stanza.

In the fourth, the momentum continued to swing in the Gators' favor as they scored three minutes into the period to extend their lead 11-8.

JCU would get a goal of their own from Carly Ross to make it 11-9, but Lauren Petrarca put the nail in the coffin with a man-up goal to seal Allegheny's first ever win over the Blue Streaks.

Perelman led all scorers with a career-high six goals while Patrarca added a hat trick for the Gators.

Ross, Shannon Burdick, and Heishman each had two goals for JCU.

Defense was key for the Gators throughout the game as they forced 25 Blue Streak turnovers while only committing five in the second half.

The Blue Streaks will head south to Clearwater, Florida and play Westfield State on Wednesday, March 9 at 9am and Western Connecticut State on Saturday, March 12 at 10 am.
