Men's Tennis Rolls Past Comets in Columbus

COLUMBUS, Ohio -- On the eve of the opening of the Short Family Tennis Center, John Carroll Men's Tennis notched a road win.

The Blue Streaks rolled past the Capital Comets, 9-0, advancing to 2-0 in Ohio Athletic Conference play.

The teams played on a special Friday night at a world-class facility, Tennis Ohio, as Capital hosted an Ovarian Cancer Awareness Match in which the players wore teal accents and helped to raise funds for the National Ovarian Cancer Coalition to support those fighting ovarian cancer. The cause resonates close to home for the Comets' head coach Cody Hurley as his mother, Debra, passed away from the disease seven years ago to the day (April 1, 2015).

Fans in attendance could make donations to support the fight, and those who were unable to make it and still wish to support the cause can do so here through Sunday, April 3.

John Carroll enjoyed plenty of success in doubles play. Gustavo Garcia and Mark Beebe teamed up at No. 1 doubles, setting the stage with an 8-1 conquest.

Logan Langovksy and Grant Sarnowski combined next for a dominant 8-0 win at No. 2. Kevin Wacnik and Nathan Palinkas dashed for an 8-0 conquest at No. 3.

Garcia matched up with a Capital freshman at No. 1 singles, and looked every bit like a veteran, notching a 6-1, 6-0 win. Langovsky fired up a double bagel next at No. 2, 6-0, 6-0. Beebe did the same at the No. 3 slot, 6-0, 6-0.

Wacnik occupied the No. 4 spot, capturing a 6-1, 6-2 win. Sarnowski breezed to a 6-0, 6-0 win next at No. 5. And finally, Alvaro Rosabal stayed successful with a 6-1, 6-1 win at No. 6.

On Saturday, the Blue Streaks will take the courts at the Short Family Tennis Center for the first time, in what should be a festive day.
