JCU Snags 11 Inning Thriller Against Hiram

HIRAM, Ohio -- On a cold afternoon, John Carroll took care of business as they defeated Hiram 7-6 in an eleven inning thriller.

With bases loaded in the 11th, pitcher Garrett Siegel forced a fly out to left field to secure the victory.

Joe Olsavsky was able to reach home thanks to an RBI single from Landen Glaser to open the scoring up 1-0.

Following a scoreless second inning, Hiram was able to take their first lead of the game courtesy of a three-run third. The Terriers' Curtis Caithaml hit an RBI triple allowing Chaisson Marrs to score to tie the game up at one apiece. Moments later, a two-run homer from Kyle Workman gave Hiram a 3-1 lead.

The Blue Streaks quickly answered in the fourth via an RBI single from Henry Haracz allowing Justin Hanley to score. During the next at bat, Haracz stole second allowing Matthew Springer to cross the plate via a throwing error by the Hiram catcher to tie the game up at 3-3.

The back and forth battle continued as both offenses added another run to their total.

At the top of the fifth, Olsavsky continued his strong day with a solo home run to left field to regain the lead for the Blue Streaks. However, the constant momentum swings continued as Hiram's Tanner Allison answered with a solo home run of his own to bring the game to 5-5 at the end of the sixth.

Hiram's offense faltered down the stretch thanks to the spectacular play from John Carroll's bullpen. Siegel entered in the ninth where he made an immediate impact on the tight contest. In three innings pitched, he struck out six batters while only allowing two hits as he paved the way for John Carroll's offense.

At the top of the eleventh, John Carroll's Benjamin Surman produced a sacrifice fly allowing Haracz to score to break the tie at 6-5. The Blue Streaks added an insurance run via an RBI double from Glaser allowing Luke Galioto to score bringing the score to 7-5.

Hiram got within one on a bases loaded walk, but Siegel closed the door on the fly out and earned his first career win.

John Carroll now improves to 16-15 overall on the season and will host Hiram at Progressive Field on Thursday, April 28th.  This will be the first time the Blue Streaks have played at the corner of Carnegie and Ontario since 2017, as first pitch is scheduled for 1:00 P.M.
