John Carroll Scores Season-High 29 Goals In Rout of Heidelberg

TIFFIN, Ohio -- The John Carroll men's lacrosse team took care of business against Heidelberg as they defeated the Student Princes 29-1.

Matt Berdysiak shined as he registered career-highs with nine goals and 10 points.  He now joins former teammate Skyler Blake as the only two players in team history to tally nine or more scores in a single game.

JCU rattled off 13 goals from six different players in the opening period, including five from Berdysiak to take a 13-0 lead.

The Blue Streaks then scored six more in the second, two from Berdysiak and Kevin Hack and one from Chandler Bankey and Jared Gorenflo to go ahead 19-0 at the intermission.

Cullen Zarek, Alexander Sykas, Vinny Fiorella, and Ian Flynn added each added goals in the third as JCU took a 27-0 advantage heading into the fourth.

Berdysiak and Zarek scored John Carroll's lone goals in the final period, and the Student Princes found the back of the net for their lone goal with 2:50 left in the game from Alex Bruder.

The game marked only the seventh time in program history where the Blue Streaks allowed one goal or fewer in a contest and the 29 goals marked a season-high in goals scored.

Ten different JCU players scored, with Gorenflo and Hack adding four of their own to complement Berdysiak's career night.  Bankey also tied a career-high with three goals, and Hack and Flynn each registered three assists.

As a team, the Blue Streaks outshot Heidelberg 57-14, which was a season-best, and picked up 50 ground balls compared to the Student Princes' 18.

John Carroll will look to keep its momentum riding on the road against Wilmington on Saturday, April 9 at 1:00 pm.
