Men's Lacrosse Defeats Wilmington on the Road

WILMINGTON, Ohio -- John Carroll Men's Lacrosse continued its dominant stretch on Saturday.

The Blue Streaks tallied their fifth win in a row, rolling to a 29-0 victory over the Wilmington Fightin' Quakers on the road.

The Blue & Gold advance to 11-1 overall, including 5-0 in Ohio Athletic Conference play.

John Carroll raced to a hot start and never looked back. Ian Flynn scored the opening goal just 20 seconds in, and Matt Berdysiak tallied another off a Chandler Bankey assist before the first minute was out. Kevin Hack set up another Berdysiak goal just 30 seconds later. Vinny Fiorella used a Tanner Gill-Snow pass for a tally, and Bankey took a Morgan Morrell helper to push the score to 5-0 at about the 5 minute mark.

Reed Stuhlreyer, Berdysiak (from Hack), Bankey (from Morrell), Morrell, and Fiorella (from Cullen Zarek) stretched the lead to 10-0, causing Wilmington to burn a timeout. Out of the brief break, Zarek and Fiorella found twine to set the score at 12-0 after one quarter.

The Blue Streaks scored 13 more goals in the second quarter. Bankey, Gill-Snow, Morrell, Zarek, Hack, Berdysiak, and Fiorella all found the back of the net to set JCU ahead at half, 25-0.

Berdysiak, Bankey, and Morell all scored in the third to push the Blue Streaks ahead after three, 29-0.

Berdysiak led the scoring with 9 goals for the second straight game. Bankey finished with a team-high 10 points, earning 5 goals and 5 assists. Fiorella followed with 4 goals. Morell and Hack each tallied hat tricks with 3 goals apiece. The shutout marks the third in program history, asd Jon Gaglio, Oliver Hammond, Johnny Wilson III, and Jeremy Urban combined for the shutout.

John Carroll will now prep for Ohio Northern, as the Polar Bears will visit Don Shula Stadium on Friday.
