Women's Basketball Captures Road Victory over the Purple Raiders

ALLIANCE -- While the men's matchup on Wednesday night garnered most of the attention, the John Carroll Women's Basketball team secured a huge Ohio Athletic Conference victory.

The Blue Streaks toppled the Purple Raiders by a final score of 65-60 in a nailbiter on the road.

John Carroll stayed above the .500 mark with a 10-8 record. Mount Union fell to 6-12.

Halle Landies came out firing in the first quarter for the Blue Streaks. She knocked down three 3-pointers to get out to a quick start. The Purple Raiders closed the quarter strong and took an 18-17 lead.

The Blue Streaks stumbled out of the break, as they struggled to find a rhythm in the second quarter. The Blue Streaks converted on just 2-of-13 shots from the field.

The two OAC rivals headed to the locker room with the Purple Raiders holding a 36-26 advantage.

Kaelyn Underwood helped flip John Carroll's script in the third quarter. Underwood and company dominated the paint after halftime.

The Blue Streaks outscored Mount Union 17-8 in the third quarter on 7-of-9 shooting. The visitors were efficient from the field and the free throw line, where they went 7-of-8.

After trailing by 10 at the half, John Carroll cut the deficit down to just one point, 44-43, heading into the final quarter.

A strong finish from Beth Andrews' squad led to a 65-60 victory over Mount Union.

Carmen Heuker and Jaylen Hoffmann each buried clutch 3-pointers that greatly impacted the final score.

Underwood led the way for John Carroll with 20 points and eight rebounds. Landies poured in 13 points. Maddie Pietrowski added eight points and six rebounds.

Next up for the Blue & Gold is a home matchup with the Capital University Comets on Kids' Night. Tip-off is slated for 2 pm on Saturday, January 28 at the Tony DeCarlo Varsity Center.
