ANOTHER RECORD: Alex Phillip Shatters NCAA Division III Indoor 3K Record

Alex Phillip's resume as one of the best runners in NCAA D-III history is growing.
UNIVERSITY HEIGHTS -- There's something special about racing in Beantown.

For the second straight year, Alex Phillip shattered a national record in Boston.

The John Carroll Men's Track & Field star shattered the NCAA Division III record for the 3000m indoor race on Friday evening, clocking in at 7:53.24.

Phillip achieved the feat racing at Boston University's Track & Tennis Center. The incredibly fast track is where Phillip combined with Ian Pierson, Caleb Correia, and Garrett Clark to set the NCAA D-III Distance Medley Relay record in 9:41.56.

To no one's surprise, Phillip penned another record this time at Boston University's John Thomas Terrier Classic. Aidan Ryan previously set the mark last year in the 3k with a time of 7:54.48. Phillip's time is better by more than a second. He finished third in a packed field, behind only non-NCAA runners.

Phillip's list of accomplishments continues to grow, as the St. Vincent-St. Mary grad has won five National Championships in all during his Hall of Fame career at John Carroll.

While not a surpise by this point in Phillip's career, the records don't lose any luster. Phillip is making a case as one of the best runners in NCAA Division III history, and it's an absolute joy for the JCU community to watch.

"By now, I don't think any of us are surprised. I am moreso proud of how he competed amongst an elite field," said Head Coach Kyle Basista. "He deserves everything he earns. No one works harder and this is a nice feather in his cap. He continues to rep John Carroll and be the ultimate ambassador for the University."
