Men's Soccer Falters vs. Capital on Senior Night

UNIVERSITY HEIGHTS -- On a night where 15 seniors and grad students were honored for the JCU Men's Soccer team, the Comets of Capital played spoiler, winning 3-1.

Following a heartbreaking loss to the Otterbein, the Blue Streaks opened up the first half wanting to get some momentum back. Unfortunately for the Blue and Gold, so did the Comets. With two lightning fast goals from the speeding Comets, the Blue Streaks were down in a quick 2-0 hole.

After the slow start, the Blue Streaks began to slowly take better care of the ball, but could not take advantage of the chances they got.

A flurry of substitutions were made throughout the first half in an attempt to regain some of the lost momentum, but it was difficult to generate any magic around the goal. The Blue Streaks were unable to score in the first half, entering the final 45 minutes down 2-0.

To start the second half, the Blue Streaks came out with a fire under their bellies. Within the first three minutes, a free kick set up a near miss by Brenden Swann on a header, among a flurry of other opportunities. While not able to get on the board, the Blue and Gold were gradually building momentum.

Unfortunately, at the 30-minute mark, the Comets sent another goal into the back of the net, extending their lead. Finding themselves in a massive hole, one again did the Blue and Gold up the ante and energy of their attacks.

At the 23-minute mark, Patrick Koenig found a spark, scoring a beautiful goal to return the deficit to two goals. From there, as time began to dwindle, the Blue Streaks attempted to catch up to the blazing speed of the Comets.

Unfortunately, there was no more magic to be had for the Blue Streaks, as the final 23 minutes saw more missed opportunities and stellar defense by Capital, leading to a 3-1 loss.

Despite the difficult loss, the Blue Streaks will look to bounce back in Alliance, where they will face off against the Purple Raiders in the most pivotal road matchup of the regular season.
