Men's Soccer Cruises Past Student Princes at Home

UNIVERSITY HEIGHTS, Ohio – On Morgan's Message night, the John Carroll Men's Soccer team defeated the Student Princes of Heidelberg, 7-0.

With the win, the Blue Streaks move to 2-0 in Ohio Athletic Conference play.

The Blue Streaks went on the attack early with a shot on goal within the first three minutes of the contest. JCU continued to possess the ball as a yellow card on Heidelberg freshman defender, Alagie Njie, gave the Blue Streaks a free kick. They couldn't convert due to junior midfielder Nicholas Graeca barely missing the bottom right corner of the goal.

Junior forward Jack Foht began to take over offensively. With a shot on goal at the 25 minute mark, Foht connected on a strike, set up by Graeca, putting the Blue Streaks ahead, 1-0. The Blue Streaks' defense continued to dominate as the Student Princes barely controlled the ball on John Carroll's half of the field. After another scoring opportunity missed by the Blue Streaks, they entered the half with a 1-0 lead.

John Carroll opened the half with a nice slide tackle by senior midfielder Hayden Haffner that set up Foht's second goal of the night. Haffner's defensive effort would be rewarded five minutes later, as he took the ball down the left side and connected to give the Blue Streaks a 3-0 lead.

The Blue Streaks offense did not let up, as Foht drew a penalty kick that he took and converted, resulting in a hat trick for Foht.

"With a strong offensive and defensive play today it was definitely one we hope to repeat," said Foht. "Although we did outplay them in the first half, hopefully we can repeat the offensive push throughout the full game this Saturday."

Haffner quickly added to the lead with his seventh goal of the season and second of the night.

Freshman midfielder Luka Pranjeta, capped off the scoring for the Blue Streaks with his second goal of the season, assisted by Severin Dengel, resulting in Dengel's first point of his collegiate career. Pranjeta then set up the first collegiate goal for sophomore forward Andrew Massucci. The goal finished off another dominant win for the Blue Streaks

"It was an incredible feeling to finally have the ball find the back of the net," said Massucci. "Although my success looks good for me, I give full credit to Luka [Pranjeta] for finding me open in the box."

John Carroll remains at Don Shula Stadium on Saturday afternoon against Marietta at 5 p.m., as the team will honor the late Chris Wenzler '90.
