Women's Swimming & Diving Bursts Past Oberlin & NDC

The Blue Streaks put on a nice show in front of a home crowd.
UNIVERSITY HEIGHTS -- While it may have been cold outside, John Carroll Women's Swimming & Diving heated up the pool.

The Blue Streaks notched a 212-73 win over Notre Dame College and a win of 199.5-96.5 against Oberlin College in action against two non-conference teams.

The night started with the 200 Yard Medley Relay with the Blue Streaks taking first and second place, with the team of Annamarie Habusta, Grace Roberts, Olivia Goodman, and Mairin Dalziel taking first with a time of 1:53:63. The long haul race of the night, the 1000 Yard Freestyle did not end in JCU's favor, but they still grabbed a podium finish with Isabella Genise taking third. Jumping Back into the shorter races, JCU's Kaitlyn Hilty took home first at 2:06.62 and Hannah Smith grabbed second at 2:07.23 in the 200 Yard Freestyle. 

The next block of races were shorter ones. The 50 Yard Backstroke felt like it was over in a flash with Lauren Koppelmann winning at a time of 29.57 followed less than a second later by Annamarie Habusta in third place at 30.43. JCU earned second and third in the 50 Yard Breaststroke by Kaitlyn Hilty and Kyan Snider-Mills respectively. The 100 Yard Butterfly saw Grace Roberts bring home a first place finish with 1:02.59 and Mariana Sneyd took third at 1:06.05. Star sophomore Mairin Dalziel took first place in the 50 Yard Freestyle, over a second in front of the next finisher. 

Mairin Dalziel came back from the diving break with another win in the 100 Yard Freestyle with a time of 54.01. Lauren Koppelmann easily won the 100 Backstroke with a time of 1:02.78, followed right behind by Annamarie Habusta in second place with 1:07.27. Kaitlyn Hilty took second in the 100 Breaststroke at 1:14.58, closely followed by fellow Blue Streak Audrey Prisby with 1:17.46 in heat two for third place. The 500 Free was dominated by Olivia Goodman, who finished over 10 seconds before the second place finisher. Olivia won with a time of 5:36.43. 

The Blue Streaks shined in diving as well. Anne Meunier won the 1 meter competition with a score of 223.57. She also won the 3 meter competition with a score of 199.5. Emily Gelske placed third in the 3 meter competition with a score 149.85. 

"Mairin was strong in her freestyle events and Annie continues to put together some well-executed dives," said Head Coach Tanner Barton.

Coming back for the last stretch of races, Olivia Goodman placed second in the 100 Individual Medley with a time of 1:05:81. The final race of the night was the 200 Free Relay where JCU took first and third. The group of Mairin Dalziel, Anna Glass, Abby Zablotny, and Grace Roberts won with a time of 1:41.96. Regan Gunzy, Olivia Goodman, Kaitlyn Hilty, and Hannah Smith landed in third at 1:48.00.

"I am extremely pleased with how our men and women came together and competed following the Thanksgiving Break. We had some impressive races in the pool and new dives on the board," said Barton.

The Blue Streaks will be back in the water next Friday, December 8 at home against the University of Findlay to finish up the semester.
