Women's Tennis Drops Home Match to Ashland on Beautiful Thursday Afternoon

UNIVERSITY HEIGHTS – On Thursday, John Carroll Women's Tennis hosted Ashland for a non-conference match after it was postponed from March.

Today's weather was perfect for tennis, but the Division II Eagles won the day.

The Blue Streaks dropped a 7-2 loss to Ashland at the Short Family Tennis Center.

Ashland started the day by taking two of three in the doubles matches. Kaylyn Gimbel and Caroline Chandler surrendered an 8-2 loss at #2 doubles despite a strong effort, and Emily Duckett and Jaclyn Voss lost soon after by an identical score at #3 doubles.

Mia Zivkovic and Felicity Kolb tabbed the doubles win for the Blue Streaks, looking strong in an 8-4 conquest at the top spot.

Ashland fired up some singles wins to earn the match win. Peyton Crumpler (0-6, 2-6), Emma Boreman (0-6, 1-6) dropped the #5 and #6 matches, and then Caroline Chandler accepted a 2-6, 1-6 loss.

Zivkovic earned JCU's lone singles victory at #1, as she won the first set, 6-2, and stood tied at 2-2 in the second set before her opponent retired. Felicity Kolb then lost a 1-6, 1-6 contest at #2 singles. The final match to conclude was the #3 dual, as Kaylyn Gimbel battled to the end but lost a 4-6, 0-6 contest.

John Carroll will reset after the loss, as the Blue Streaks return to Ohio Athletic Conference play on Saturday. JCU will make the long trek to Marietta on Saturday, hoping to get another conference win.
