Men's Tennis Battles Past Yellow Jackets in Road Victory

BEREA, Ohio -- While John Carroll Men's Tennis has won 10 straight against their rivals in Berea, the process was not easy for the Blue Streaks this year.

The Blue & Gold needed to battle hard to vanquish the Brown & Gold on Wednesday afternoon in Berea.

The men of Walt Oden notched a 7-2 win over the Yellow Jackets to advance to 4-1 in Ohio Athletic Conference play.

John Carroll tallied a pair of doubles victories to begin the contest. Kevin Wacnik and Phillip Gorun got on the board first with an 8-4 victory at #3 doubles. Logan Langovksy and Grant Sarnowski soon followed it up with an 8-4 win at the #1 spot. But the Yellow Jackets did not come home empty handed in doubles, as Anthony Markello and Nathan Palinkas lost a pitched battle, 8-7.

Palinkas quickly bounced back with a W at #5 singles, getting on the board with a 6-0, 6-3 win. Gorun again made swift work of his foes, with a triumph at #6, 6-1, 6-1. Logan Langovksy finalized the team win shortly thereafter with a 6-1, 6-4 win at #1 singles.

The Yellow Jackets narrowed the gap to 5-2 thanks to a win at #2 singles, as Sarnowski dropped a 4-6, 4-6 decision. The final two bouts would be slugfests. Wacnik arrived to the winner's circle with a 3-6, 6-2, 7-6 victory that was hard-earned. And Markello finished out the day with a 6-7, 6-4, 10-4 conquest.

It was a sweet feeling no doubt to conclude the day with two narrow wins.

John Carroll will need that calm, collected mentality in the regular season finale against Otterbein. Stay tuned for updates on scheduling, as weather may force a change in plans.
