Men's Track & Field Earns Success Across 3 Different Meets

Jimmy Kartsonas earned a pair of victories in the 100m and the 4x100.
As per usual, it was a busy weekend for John Carroll Men's Track & Field, heading to three different meets.

Success was enjoyed at each meet, particularly at the Sparky Adams Invitational in Berea despite threatening weather conditions, as the Blue Streaks won the meet with a team point total of 122 over host Baldwin Wallace's 113 points.

Here's how it happened this weekend for the Blue Streaks.

Adam Shah and Jacob Gerhardt repped the Blue Streaks in Westerville on Friday, racing in the 3000m Steeplechase. Shah notched second with a time of 9:43.00 and Gerhardt secured seventh in 10:08.16.

Ethan Domitrovich tallied a new PR in the 3000m Steeplechase with a time of 8:57.53, finishing fourth the race. His mark rockets him up to second-best in program history (behind only Ian Pierson) and third overall in NCAA Division III.

On Friday, the Blue Streaks started off the fun with the discus and the javelin. In the discus, Zach Szafarski tallied a PR of 44.66m to lead the way with a third-place finish. Tyler Gast led the squad in the discus with a runner-up heave of 44.72m. Szafarski (38.27m) and Alec Gorman (37.57m) tabbed sixth and seventh. 

On Saturday, the Blue Streaks opened up with a victory in the 4x100 relay. Mick Doyle, Garrett Clark, Dustin Horner, and Jimmy Kartsonas registered a time of 41.48 to take the cake. Kartsonas kept winning in the 100m, making a splash with a winning time of 10.94. 

Basheer Alramahi continued his strong breakout year by staking his claim on first in the 400m. The freshman beat all other challengers with a time of 48.10. Brody Hanlon (50.40), Max Grillo (50.68), and Caleb Correia (50.87) all scored points for JCU, too. 

Garrett Clark was his typical strong self in the 200m, clocking in at 21.72 for the top time. Alramahi marked down a time of 22.38 for third. Kartsonas (22.64) and Gast (22.80) collected sixth and seventh, respectively. 

Also on the sprints side, Daylen Glaze finished third in the 110m hurdles with a time of 16.30. Glaze later finished eighth in the long jump (6.11m). In the 400m hurdles, Evan Smith finished fourth in 1:06.14. 

Looking at the mid-distance side of things, Joe Backus showed great range with a PR of 1:55.80 in the 800m, tallying second. John Shoemaker also registered points with a sixth-place time of 1:57.17. Michael Hvidzos snagged seventh in the 1500m with a time of 4:07.19. 

The Blue Streaks concluded the running events with the 4x400. Correia, Hanlon, Grillo, and Evan Piscitani teamed up for a time of 3:23.06 for fourth. 

In the field events, Noah Schroeder continued his strong campaign with a heave of 51.73m for fourth in the hammer throw. Right behind him was Zach Szafarski in fifth at 51.72m. Matthew Russo rang in fourth in the shot put with a toss of 13.49m.
