MAYFIELD, Ohio —Spring sports continue to battle the ever-changing inclimate weather as Northeast Ohio goes from summer to winter to spring within days.
The John Carroll Men's Tennis team once again had to pivot their original plans in order to accommodate what looked to be a rainstorm coming straight for University Heights.
Hosting Capital University for the Ohio Athletic Conference Tournament Quarterfinal match, the Blue and Gold took competition inside at the Mayfield Racquet Club on Wednesday, April 25 as they defeated the Comets after a clinching 5-0 performance.
Starting first with the doubles matches, the Blue Streaks swept on each court by a score of 8-2.
No. 1 doubles, Grant Sarnowski and Logan Langovsky, No. 2 doubles, Kevin Wacnik and Anthony Markello, and No. 3 doubles Phillip Gorun and Nathan Palinkas, each provided quick victories for John Carroll as the home team went up 3-0 after the doubles matches.
According to OAC Tournament play rules, the competition goes until a team clinches the victory. Following the doubles matches, that meant the Blue and Gold only had to win two singles matches.
With only three courts available at Mayfield Racquet Club, Langovsky, Sarnowski and Markello took the courts at No. 1-3 singles to put away two single match victories for the Blue Streaks.
They did just that, as Langovsky and Sarnowski finalized their matches. Langovsky won with set scores of 6-2 and 6-0, while Sarnowski earned a victory at 6-1, 6-0.
Markello finished just minutes after the second singles win as he defeated his opponent 6-0 in both sets.
With this team win, John Carroll advances to the OAC Semifinal which will be on Friday, April 28 in Mason, OH at Lindner Family Tennis Center vs. Ohio Northern at 1 pm.
