Women's Soccer Battles to a Tie with Wooster on the Road

WOOSTER, Ohio – For just the second time this young season, John Carroll Women's Soccer faced a second-half deficit on Saturday.

An early-second half goal by the College of Wooster put the Blue Streaks' five-match unbeaten streak in jeopardy. However, the Blue Streaks fought back despite playing a third game in six days, scoring the tying goal to escape with a tie.

The Blue Streaks walked away from a stout battle with the Fighting Scots with a 1-1 result.

With the tie, the Blue Streaks advance to 3-1-3 on the season. Just one non-conference match is left to play on the slate after today.

Despite the adjustment to playing on grass, the Blue Streaks got a couple of early shots. Emily Patrzyk and Alli Malinky both tested the keeper in the opening minutes with shots on goal. Wooster then took a turn applying pressure, with several shots leading up to a shot on goal in the 22nd minute that Madeline Martin Koiser turned away.

Near the midpoint of the half, the officials booked two Scots with yellow cards in the 27th and 34th minutes. A JCU corner kick in the 35th minute led to a chance, and the Blue Streaks enjoyed the majority of the chances down the stretch. Wooster did get a promising chance in the final minute, but Koiser stood strong for the 0-0 tie after 45 minutes.

Just five minutes in the second half, the hosts got a golden opportunity. A handball called on a JCU player in the box gave the Fighting Scots a PK in the 51st minute. Wooster buried the opportunity and snagged a 1-0 lead.

The Blue Streaks showcased their resiliency, with a shot just 17 seconds after the restart. Madyson Rosado forced the keeper to make a save, sending the message that this JCU team would not go down easily.

After the Fighting Scots generated some pressure, the Blue Streaks started to build. In the 65th minute, Emily Patrzyk took a corner kick from the far side. Gabriella Walter took a runup to the ball and headed it beautifully to the wide side of the net, beating the keeper wonderfully.

Lucy Altieri got the next shot on net before Fighting Scots got back on track with some pressure. Patrzyk responded with a shot on goal in the 78th minute, to no avail.

Wanting to break the tie, Wooster pressed late for the home win. A Wooster corner kick with three minutes left appeared dangerous, but ended up empty. Neither team could create anything in the final minutes, so the contest remained deadlocked.

The Blue Streaks finished with more shots, 19-11, and shots on goal, 7-5. Koiser made 4 saves in the contest.

Michael Marich's side will get back to action quickly, with the Blue Streaks back in action on Tuesday. John Carroll will host Ohio Wesleyan in a conclusion to non-conference action, and while celebrating Senior Night.
