Blue Streaks Breeze Past Blue Devils in Tuesday Volleyball Action

FREDONIA, N.Y. – Despite a quick turnaround from Labor Day weekend, John Carroll Volleyball took care of business on Tuesday evening.

The Blue Streaks traveled to Fredonia and promptly got the job done against the Fredonia State Blue Devils with a 3-0 conquest.

John Carroll won by set scores of 25-21, 25-12, 25-12, advancing to 2-2 on the season.

The opening set saw the Blue Streaks look to shake off the cobwebs from the 2-hour, 15-minute trip along I-90. The teams stood tied at 14-14, and then again at 18-18. But three kills down the stretch by Mary Kate Sheehan helped the Blue Streaks figure it out in the opener.

Aided by some Fredonia State errors, the Blue Streaks got out to a nice start in the second set with a 5-0 run to fire ahead 9-5. A subsequent 7-point run, concluded by a Haley Nicholson kill, ensured the Blue Streaks would fire ahead to a set two victory.

Errors continued to hurt the Blue Devils in the third set. John Carroll raced out to a 10-5 lead. Fredonia State tried to get back in it, but kills by Deja Whitten, Natalie Glowe, and Jennifer Follmer helped to end the threat. With Maddie Maziarz serving, the Blue Streaks stepped on the gas pedal, with a marvelous 9-point run to conclude the match.

Sheehan led the team in kills with seven. Maziarz provided a team-high 9 assists. Natalie Glowe stood above the rest with 14 digs, while Maziarz also reached double digits with 11. Kallan Hrics notched the first kill of her collegiate career. Just about everyone on the roster saw the court on Tuesday evening.

The Blue Streaks will get back in action quickly, with the home opener set for tomorrow (Wednesday) evening. John Carroll will host The College of Wooster at 7 pm in the Tony DeCarlo Varsity Center.
