Women's Soccer Picks Up Big Road Win over Capital

UNIVERSITY HEIGHTS – A year ago, the only Ohio Athletic Conference team not to be beaten by John Carroll Women's Soccer was Capital University.

This year, the Blue Streaks repaid the Comets the favor.

John Carroll roared past Capital on the road on Saturday afternoon, 2-0. Madyson Rosado provided both the goals for the Blue & Gold.

The victory over the Comets marks the first in the series for JCU since 2019, the first in eight meetings.

Capital and John Carroll traded jabs in the opening minutes, testing each other's defenses. While there were some solid chances, the icebreaker did not occur until the 33rd minute.

Taking a pass, Rosado sprinted right down broadway, dashing through three Comet defenders. Drawing forward the keeper, Rosado beat her with a tricky left-footed shot that donked off the right post and into the back of the net.

The Comets looked to respond, with a few shots, including one on net very late in the half. But Madeline Martin and the Blue Streaks stood strong to keep the margin at one with 45 minutes left to play.

In the early going of the second half, John Carroll got some much needed insurance.

Meredith Coloian fired a through ball ahead to the right side of the pitch, following a failed Capital clear attempt. Madyson Rosado raced to grab it, and right-footed a marvelous shot off the left bar and into the back of the net. Rosado's second goal of the game provided a big bit of breathing room for the Blue Streaks.

After Rosado hit the multi-goal mark for the second time in as many matches, Capital took it into overdrive on offense.

The Comets tried again and again to find the goal to get on the board. But each time, Madeline Martin and the Blue Streaks were ready for the challenge, making stop after stop.

Capital kept up a frenetic pace, firing 13 shots, including 5 on target. But Martin and the Blue Streaks turned away each chance with authority.

The shutout marks the second straight shutout and fifth overall of the season for John Carroll.
