Women's Soccer Remains Unbeaten in OAC Play with Marietta Win

UNIVERSITY HEIGHTS -- John Carroll Women's Soccer secured a big win at Marietta College on Saturday afternoon.

After a lengthy road trip south to Marietta, the Blue Streaks scored a 2-0 win against the Pioneers.

The Blue Streaks have earned their fifth straight conference win for the 2024 season. Michael Marich's team is the lone Ohio Athletic Conference team without a defeat in league play.

The Blue Streaks have a 9-5 record heading into the back half of the OAC season.

The game started off strong with a shot on goal by freshman Taylor Kuhn in the second minute of the game. Nearing the halfway mark for the first half, the Blue Streaks broke through. John Carroll's junior Abby Smith found the back of the net, assisted by Emily Patrzyk. The early lead allowed the Blue Streaks to take the driver's seat early in the game.

The Blue Streaks continued to pressure and fight off the opponents. Shortly after that goal, Meredith Coloian scored the second goal for the Blue Streaks in the 21st minute. It was a key insurance goal to help John Carroll breathe easier.

With many of the players having shots on goal and fierce defensive play, the Blue Streaks held off the Pioneers. Goalie Madeline Martin protected the goal box with all her might in allowing for no shots to enter.

Heading into the second half, the energy was high as the Blue Streaks excitedly headed to the final 45 minutes of this conference game. Starting off strong, JCU notched a shot in the 50th minute by freshman Lucy Kuerbis, getting the half underway.

The second half finished off quite with a total of 12 shots taken on goal from the Blue Streaks.

At the end of the 90-minute game, the Blue Streaks advanced into the second half of conference play with an undefeated record.

Madeline Martin led the Blue Streaks to their seventh shutout this season, including her third straight. Kathryn Shaffer played all 90 minutes of this fierce game.
