Volleyball Downs Penn State Behrend on the Road

ERIE, Penn. – In a midweek trip to Pennsylvania, John Carroll Volleyball picked up a victory.

The Blue Streaks fired past Penn State Behrend in Erie on Wednesday, 25-9, 25-20, 23-25, 25-12.

The win marks the fifth in the last six matches for the squad.

John Carroll got out to a strong start in the opening set. The Blue Streaks' offense was incredibly efficient, not committing an error the entire first set. A pair of service aces by Olivia Mogyordy and Natalie Glowe powered a pair of crucial runs to keep the Blue Streaks in the driver's seat in the early goings.

The second set was not quite as dominant but the Blue Streaks still took care of business nicely. A 10-2 run down the stretch very much did the Lions in, aided by some Penn State Behrend errors. Abby Bednar helped power the offense, while Glowe finished things off with a kill.

The teams traded 5-point runs in the third set to battle to a 17-17 tie. A 5-1 run then put the hosts in the driver's seat, and despite a comeback effort, the visitors came up short and thus a fourth set would be necessary.

John Carroll got the job done with ease in the fourth set, setting the tone with a 5-0 run to start. Soon after, a 6-point run punctuated by kills by Mary Kate Sheehan and Hailey Williams. Kills down the stretch by Bednar, Glowe, and Jessica Liddle finished things off with ease.

Bednar dominated the front lines for the Blue Streaks, leading all players with 16 kills in an efficient manner. Tess Humphrey steered the Streaks with 23 assists, while Haley Nicholson chipped in 20. Hailey Williams topped the team with 14 digs. Jessica Liddle anchored the middle with 5 block assists, part of a stellar defense that posted 18 blocks.
