Men’s Cross Country Earns Second Place Finish At NCAA Regional Championships

Blue Streaks Earn Fifth Consecutive Top Three Finish At NCAA Regional Championships
SHELBYVILLE, IN – After months of training and dedication, the men's cross country team traveled westward for the NCAA Division III Great Lakes Regional Championships hosted by Franklin University at Blue River Memorial Park. 

The men placed second overall, scoring a total of 112 points to earn their fifth consecutive top three finish at the regional championships. A total of four runners earned Great Lakes All-Region honors for the Blue Streaks this afternoon. 

The Calvin Knights took home the team title, scoring a total of 99 points, bringing home five runners earning Great Lakes All-Region honors. This is the first time since 2019 that Calvin earned a regional championship for their program.

Leading for the Blue Streaks was senior Barrett Scheatzle, who placed ninth overall with a time of 25:00.86 earning his second Great Lakes All-Region honor for JCU. 

Not far behind was senior Ryan Champa, who would take home his fourth Great Lakes All-Region honor placing 13th overall with a time of 25:16.39 to represent JCU's second runner to cross the finish line. 

Finishing third for the Blue Streaks was senior Tommy Naiman, who would go on to earn his third overall Great Lakes All-Region honor for JCU finishing 23rd overall with a time of 25:35.05. 

Sophomore Nate Julien followed right behind Naiman as he would finish 24th overall, stepping up big for the Blue Streaks in their team scoring. Julien earned his first Great Lakes All-Region honor and would clock in at 25:37.19. 

Rounding up the top five would be senior Dominic Delmoro as he would finish 43rd overall with a time of 25:59.96 to close the scoring for JCU. 
Finishing as the sixth and seventh runners for the Blue Streaks would be senior Jett Wieber (26:17.22) and Freshman Sam Su (26:37.89). Wieber would place 60th overall, while Su would finish 79th. 

The men's team will be playing the waiting game, as their bid for a spot in the NCAA Division III Cross Country National Championships will be announced at 3:00pm this Sunday, November 17th. If they do qualify, they will head to Terre Haute, Indiana for a chance at glory on Saturday, November 23rd hosted by Rose Hulman University. 

This would be the fifth consecutive time the men have qualified for the NCAA National Championships and fifth time in program history.
