WACO, TEX -- The physical embodiment of a Man of Carroll gets to add one more honor to his outstanding collegiate resume.

Matt Wrather was named to the 2024 AFCA Division III Coaches All-America Second Team after another season anchoring the Blue Streaks' offensive line.

The native of Powell, Ohio, spent three seasons as John Carroll's starting center, establishing himself as not only the best in the conference, but also one of the best in the nation.

His notable accolades include back-to-back OAC Ken Wable Offensive Lineman of the Year awards in 2023 and 2024, three All-OAC First Team selections, and a spot on the 2023 D3football.com All-America Second Team.

Wrather became the first Blue Streak to win the Ken Wable award twice, the OAC's highest level of recognition for an offensive lineman.

While his playing career has now come to an end, Wrather will have one more opportunity to represent John Carroll Football next month. In the early weeks of the season, he was named to the AFCA Good Works team, a prestigious honor throughout all levels of NCAA football. The senior captain will travel to Atlanta for the Allstate Sugar Bowl to receive in-person recognition.

Joining Wrather on the Second Team is Mount Union's Rossy Moore and Heidelberg's Joseph Norris. Mount Union's Tyler Echeverry and Marietta's Chance Knight secured spots on the First Team.

The last Blue Streaks to earn a spot on the exclusive list were Jack Faron and Grant Gonya in 2022. Faron and Gonya, graduate students at the time, were selected twice for the All-OAC First Team.

John Carroll has now been represented on the AFCA Division III Coaches' All-America Team 15 times by 16 players since its inception in 1972.

The AFCA's Division III All-America Selection Committee is made up of head coaches representing each conference from each of the AFCA's seven districts, one of whom serves as a district chairman, along with another head coach who serves as the chairman of the selection committee. The coaches in each district are responsible for ranking the top players in their respective districts prior to a conference call between the district chairmen and the committee chairman on which the team is chosen.
