Seniors Represented Tonight For JCU vs Heidelberg In Final OAC Match

On Senior Night in the Tony DeCarlo Varsity Center, the Blue Streaks faced conference opponents the Student Princes of Heidelberg University.

After a long battle to bring the score within one point, the Blue Streaks ultimately fell short with a final score of 23-18.

In the 125 weight class, Heidelberg accepted a forfeit putting them ahead 6-0 on the dual.

The 133 slot was the first match of the night where Ty Daugherty took the lead quickly. After a strong run by Heidelberg, Daugherty spent the rest of the match working to get even. Eventually Daugherty tied the score at 10 all but came up short by 1 point due to a penalty called with 8 seconds left.

Patrick McGraw in the 157 match was the first Blue Streak to put points on the board. McGraw tallied a 17-1 tech fall victory to cut down Heidelberg's lead to 15-5.

Wills Bronson compounded the Blue Streaks momentum by pinning the Student Prince in the second period. The pin brought the score within four points at 15-11.

With the energy building in favor of the Blue Streaks, Aiden Ashburn continued to chip away at Heidelberg's lead. Ashburn won by decision with a score of 7-2 that added three crucial points to John Carroll's overall score, making it 15-14.

Heidelberg took home the win at 184 widening the gap to 19-14.

At 194, Jesse Kanatzar held his opponent scoreless. Kanatzar won by major decision of 10-0 which again, brought the overall score within one point. Heidelberg still led 19-18.

With a loss by major decision in 285, the Student Princes closed out the dual with a final score of 23-18.

Looking to the future, the Blue Streaks will hit the mats again on March 1st for NCAA Regionals.
