Men's Tennis Cruises Past Capital in Home Opener

UNIVERSITY HEIGHTS – No doubt about it, John Carroll Men's Tennis enjoyed being at the Short Family Tennis Center for the first time this season.

The Blue Streaks dominated the Capital Comets on a sunny, mild day, with a 9-0 conquest.

The win pushed John Carroll to 5-6 on the season, and 2-0 in Ohio Athletic Conference play.

"It feels great to be out here on campus in front of the home fans," said Grant Sarnowski. "With Cleveland weather, we don't get to experience it very often, but when we do, it's a special experience."

Dylan Westmeyer and Griffin Millspaugh opened doubles play with a clear conquest at No. 2, by a score of 8-1. Sarnowski and Logan Langovsky excelled as per usual at the No. 1 doubles spot, 8-2. Anthony Markello and Philip Gorun accepted a forfeit at No. 3.

Millspaugh was the first to get a singles win, firing up a 6-0, 6-0 at No. 5. And with the forfeit win for Dylan Westmeyer at No. 6, that was the match win for JCU.

Phillip Gorun rolled in his No. 4 bout, 6-0, 6-1. Sarnowski (6-0, 6-1) and Langovsky (6-1, 6-2) finished one right after the other at No. 2 and No. 1. And Anthony Markello concluded the contest on a happy note with a 6-1, 6-3 victory.

"Our team is really close, we have good team chemistry," Sarnowski said after the win. "We have good cohesion. The addition of assistant coaches Torrey McNeal and Earl Beebe have been fantastic and integral to our success, combined with the hard work."

The Blue Streaks will have a quick turnaround, back in action tomorrow. John Carroll will host the University of Rochester for a 12 pm non-conference contest.

"Rochester will be a test for us," said Sarnowski. "They're a good, tough team. We're going to get some rest and stay locked in and come back tomorrow with a vengeance."
