The Blue Streaks excelled on Monday, guided by runner-up Wade Boyle.
ZANESVILLE – While most Blue Streaks enjoyed the awe-inspiring eclipse on campus, John Carroll Men's Golf got a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.

How about a round of golf during a solar eclipse, watching alongside your teammates and competitors alike?

And not only that, the Blue Streaks emerged with a victory, crowned as the champs of the Muskingum Invitational.

John Carroll bested Otterbein, last season's Ohio Athletic Conference champs, by just one stroke in a comeback feat. The Blue Streaks compiled a team score of 283 on Monday to add to Sunday's 293 for a winning score of 576.

Eaglesticks Golf Course provided the venue, a deceptively hard challenge, offering a good mix of tough holes and birdie opportunities. It's a hilly course with tricky greens, but John Carroll was up to the task.

While the first day was a strong showing by JCU, the second day was more memorable. The teams halted play at 2:55 pm, as the players stayed on the course and viewed nature's beauty of a total solar eclipse via glasses provided by Muskingum University. Play resumed at 3:30 pm to conclude what will be an unforgettable day for just about everyone.

After play concluded a few hours later, the Blue Streaks stood on top. Wade Boyle spearheaded the charge for the Blue & Gold, as the freshman finished as the tournament runner-up. After an opening round of 71, Boyle fired up a fantastic 69 in his second round for a second-place 140.

Senior Zach Brinks was ever-consistent across the two days. After starting with a 73, the Cincinnati native concluded with a 72, adding up to a 145. The veteran leader stood in seventh place.

Freshman Austin Malley and senior Grant Lumley both rallied on day two. The two Blue Streaks each carded a 71 for the second round after tagging scores of 76 in the opening round. Malley and Lumley tied for ninth, each with a 147.

Freshman London Hoyser had rounds of 73 and 75, as his 148 finished just outside the top ten.

John Carroll's individuals didn't slouch, either. Jack Gerborg was dialed in with rounds 72-71. His excellent marks earned him a third place finish with a 143 total, just one stroke off third.

Jacob Hazen was a model of consistency with 74-74. His final of 148 tied with Hoyser. Kamden Mowry carded rounds of 75-75, good for a 150 for the two-day event.
