Men's Tennis Fires into OAC Tournament Championship by Besting Otterbein

LIMA – The start appeared ominous, but the final result was bright for John Carroll Men's Tennis on Friday.

The Blue Streaks propelled past the Otterbein Cardinals, 5-2, and into the championship match of the Ohio Athletic Conference Tournament on Saturday at 2 pm vs. host Ohio Northern.

John Carroll lost two of the three doubles matches, but rolled past the Cardinals in singles to secure the team's first title ticket since 2022 (a defeat to ONU).

All of the doubles matches were about as close as can be, all decided by 8-6 scores.

John Carroll got on the scoreboard first with a victory at the No. 3 doubles spot. Griffin Millspaugh and Dylan Westmeyer, a strong duo all year, combined for an 8-6 conquest to start. But from there, things took a turn for the worse for JCU.

The Cardinals picked up the next two doubles contests. Logan Langovsky and Grant Sarnowski accepted a rare loss at No. 1. And then, Anthony Markello and Phillip Gorun succumbed at No. 2.

But in singles play, the Blue Streaks rebounded in a big way. Markello got JCU all tied up with a 6-1, 6-2 conquest at No. 3. Langovsky then secured the lead for the men of University Heights with a 6-2, 6-2 decision.

Westmeyer sent the Cardinals to the brink with a job well-done at No. 6, 6-4, 6-3. And Gorun got the job finalized with a 6-3, 6-2 conquest.

John Carroll now will have a quick turnaround. The Blue Streaks will rest up and prepare for Ohio Northern. During the regular season, JCU accepted a narrow 5-4 loss to the Polar Bears at home.

The Blue Streaks will be looking to get back atop the OAC mountaintop for the first time since 2021.
