Blue Streaks Conclude The Cleveland Classic In Excellent Fashion Defeating Trine

UNIVERSITY HEIGHTS, Ohio - After an impressive showing Friday night against Stockton, Coach Dejan Mladenovic and his crew entered into today to put an emphasis on the Cleveland Classic weekend.

The Wenzler's Warriors did just that by defeating Trine University this Sunday afternoon by a final score of 5-1 in front of a home crowd including students, family, alumni, and countless others to also conclude McCarthy Weekend.

"It was cool to see all the alumni over the past weekend," Senior Nicholas Graeca claimed. "Obviously I play for the love of the game, but I also love playing for the people who support us. And to have the support from the people who played before and who paved the way for us, it truly feels great to put up these two performances for them."

This was the Blue Streaks' fourth straight win and second straight home win at Don Shula Stadium. With the win, JCU moves up to being 5-1 overall this season.

Trine University began the kickoff with immediately pressuring JCU's defense. With a few minutes into the first half, the Blue Streak offense set their formation up perfectly, leading Izac Coleman to set up a pass to Nicholas Graeca, who crossed the ball over to Jaden Wright to find the back of the net to put the Blue Streaks up one goal.

An early goal would allow JCU to bolster their energy levels in the next play. After eight minutes go by, who else, but Jaden Wright would record his second goal of the game, assisted by Hayden Haffner and Izac Coleman (his second assist of the match) to put the Blue Streaks up by two.

A little bit of back and forth action between the two teams would go on as John Carroll would keep riding the momentum throughout the first half after recording two early goals.

A foul by Trine just at the edge of the box would allow the Blue Streaks to get a free kick. That is when junior midfielder Guilherme Wanderley would step up to the plate and kick it to the right corner of the goal and find the back of the net.

The Blue Streaks would roll into halftime with high spirits as they scored three goals in the first half, recording a total of nine shots and four assists.

In the second half, JCU continued to put the pressure on Trine and it paid off. After a few substitutions throughout the first half, the Blue Streaks would continue to rely on their starters coming in.

That would soon pay off as senior Logan Penton would find his way to the back of the net, giving the team a four goal lead, assisted by Jaden Wright, who had an extraordinary day for JCU.

The team is firing on all cylinders, both on offense and defense, which led to Trine not having any answer.

A free kick just outside of the box would allow Trine to capitalize on an opportunity as they would finally get on the board in the 70th minute of play.

Both teams would allow a few substitutions to make an impact on the match as time was winding down.

A few fouls would prevent both teams from continuing to play on a consistent level as the Blue Streaks were nearing another win to conclude the weekend.

As the Blue Streaks looked to find a rhythm, a shot from Yehonatan Sabag deflected off the defender would increase the team's lead to four goals.

It was an awesome and great way to end McCarthy Weekend as the Blue Streaks would roll past the Thunder on this beautiful Sunday afternoon.

"It feels great as their support is always everlasting," Head Coach Dejan Mladenovic stated. "Every year they find new and unique ways to give us the most support possible. But I think it is always important to pay it back to them and put on good performances on the field and show our respect to them.

The Blue Streaks hope to stay hot against Ohio Wesleyan University, as they play at 7pm on Wednesday, September 18 at Don Shula Stadium.
