Men's Cross Country Posts Second Place Performance at YSU Inaugural Meet

Barrett Scheatzle led the Blue Streaks to a second place finish at YSU
Canfield, Ohio - The men's cross country team headed down to the freshly unveiled Gorby Family Championship Cross Country Course for Youngstown State's Inaugural Cross Country Meet. 

Men's 8k Results

Amidst hot weather and rolling hills, the Blue Streaks impressed with a second-place finish, scoring 52 points in their first 8K of the season. Placing first was University of Charleston. Charleston took the victory with a low score of 25 points, placing five runners in the top 10. Placing third was Slippery Rock with 98 points.

Barrett Scheatzle was the top Blue Streak runner, coming in 4th overall with a time of 26:13. After a long road to recovery from two hip surgeries, the senior hasn't raced since his sophomore year. "The biggest thing has been a new level of gratitude for the sport. When the race gets hard, I remind myself this is what I thought I'd never get back to. The journey has taught me so much about myself, and I'm grateful to be back," said Scheatzle.

The second finisher for the team was senior Dominic Delmoro, who placed 6th with a time of 26:25. Following closely was senior Ryan Champa, who finished 12th in his first race of the season with a time of 26:50. Next was senior Aidan Stone. The Illinois native finished 13th, posting a time of 26:53. Rounding out the top five was freshman Sam Su. Su made a strong 8k debut, placing 20th with a time of 27:15. 

The Blue Streaks will make the trek to Bethlehem, PA to compete at the Paul Short Run hosted by Lehigh University on October 5th.
