Men's Golf Tallies Second Place in NCAA Region V Showcase

WILLOUGHBY HILLS – You can't win them all, but the Blue Streaks came close to extending their hot streak.

John Carroll Men's Golf took part this weekend in the NCAA Region V Fall Showcase at Manakiki Golf Course in Willoughby Hills.

The Blue Streaks finished in second place to Trine, marking the first time not winning an invitational this season. John Carroll finished 10 strokes off of the winning Thunder. JCU tallied a 291 on Day 1 and a 306 on Day 2 to mark down a score of 597 for the tournament.

Austin Malley provided the leading effort this weekend. The Peters Township grad stayed steady all weekend, carding a 74 on Saturday and a 73 on Sunday. With that effort of -2 on the final nine holes, he cemented his spot in fifth with his total of 147.

Wade Boyle started out hot but couldn't keep up his torrid pace on Sunday. The Greensburg, PA shot an immaculate five-under-par for the back nine in the opening round to card a 69 (-3). The course proved more challenging on Sunday, as he tabbed an 80 for a total of 149, tying for ninth.

Jack Gerborg also started out quickly on the opening round with a score of 72 before dropping back for an 80 on the second round. His total of 152 was good for a tie for 16th. London Hoyser (81-74) and Daniel Donahue (76-79) each marked down a 155, finishing in the top quartile of golfers.

Individually, Anthony Krakowiak tied for 19th with a line of 76-77–153). Andrew Schwartz (78-79–157) and Carson Meyer (85-79–164) also put together solid outings.

The Blue Streaks will have a week off before returning to action on October 5-6. JCU will head down to the familiar territory of River Greens Golf Club for the OAC Fall Preview.
