Women's Wrestling Posts Strong Effort at Mount Union Raider Open

Jordan Palmer was one of JCU's winners at Sunday's event

ALLIANCE – In the first action of 2025, John Carroll Women's Wrestling enjoyed a solid outing.

The Blue Streaks competed well at the Mount Union Raider Open, with several champions. 

Sumayyah Kemp and Jordan Palmer both stood as the champs. Talia Mitchell and Bella Cyrkiel shared another title.

"Extremely great weekend of wrestling," said Associate Head Coach Trysten Zahoransky. "The ladies are working harder than ever as we push closer to regionals. Very proud of the work they've put in."

Palmer helped to guide the effort with a 2-0 mark at 145 pounds. The North Canton native opened with a victory by fall over Mount Union's Karlie Stith in 1:51. For the title, Palmer eked out a narrow 6-5 decision over Jasmine Craddock (Bethany College). 

Kemp notched a win in her lone contested match of the day at 131. The first-year Streak defeated Mount Union's Ilani Jones-Wallace in a late first-period pin. 

Mitchell and Cyrkiel shared the spotlight at 160. Cyrkiel opened with a 10-0 tech fall and finished with a victory over Mount Union's Shelby Walker by fall in the first period, all before heading to spring media day (Cyrkiel will be part of JCU Softball in the spring). Meanwhile, Mitchell bested the Raiders' Walker by 12-2 tech fall, and then tallied a quick pin to win. 

Riley Duffey (124) and Meghan Edwards (145) each picked up wins on the day. Duffey's came via fall over Mount Union's Ariel Manning in the second round, while Edwards started strong with a win over Bethany's Craddock. 

Next Up
John Carroll will head to Fort Wayne for the Indiana Tech Open next Saturday.
