Kudos to Jacob Hufnagel, Troy Mrukowski, Grant Myers, Owen Schuckert, Colin Schuler, Nick Semptimphelter, Jon Tomcufcik, and Matt Wrather

In a season filled with notable achievements, some of John Carroll's best from the gridiron are gaining additional prestigious recognition.

Jacob Hufnagel, Troy Mrukowski, Grant Myers, Owen Schuckert, Colin Schuler, Nick Semptimphelter, Jon Tomcufcik, and Matt Wrather have all earned College Sports Communicators Academic All-District honors for their efforts both on and off the football field this past season.

Jacob Hufnagel made the most of his sophomore season for the Blue Streaks on defense. The defensive back was first on the team with 10 pass breakups, tied for first with three interceptions, 8th on the team in tackles, and added a fumble recovery on his way to earning All-OAC Second Team distinction. In the classroom, Hufnagel is pursuing a degree in Exercise Science at John Carroll.

Troy Mrukowski was another standout this season on the offense line that garnered so much respect from opponents this season. Mrukowski played in nearly every game this season and had a huge part in the Blue Streaks playoff contests vs Mount St. Joseph and Mount Union. Mrukowski, a sophomore, is majoring in Education at John Carroll.

Grant Myers was a staple on John Carroll's offensive line this season, helping protect Semptimphelter and allowing the Blue Streaks explosive run game to flourish. Myers was named to the All-OAC First Team this season for his efforts. The junior is majoring in business and is the Co-President of Fellowship of Christian Athletes on campus.

Owen Schuckert had an impressive season for the Blue Streaks on special teams, earning the inaugural 2024 OAC Special Teams Award. Schuckert made favorable field position rare for John Carroll's opponents this season with his punting, as 11 of his 77 punts resulted in opponents starting their drives inside the 20 yard line. Schuckert, a junior exercise science major, is President of the John Carroll Pre-Physical Therapy and Occupational Therapy Club, Vice President and College Ambassador Program member: Gift of Life, a member of the Exercise Science Club, and a member of the Pre Health-Coordinating Committee.

Colin Schuler was steady this season as the Blue Streaks' placekicker. The sophomore crushed two field goals over 40 yards this season and did not miss a single extra point in 59 attempts, including going 9-for-9 against Wilmington on October 26th. Schuler is studying Exercise Science at John Carroll.

Nick Semptimphelter had an impressive season at quarterback for John Carroll. The graduate student stuffed the stat sheet for the Streaks, as he threw for 2,912 yards and 38 touchdowns with a 76% completion percentage, the highest in a single season in JCU history. Thanks to those numbers, he was named to the All-OAC First Team as he led the conference in touchdown passes and passing yards per game. Semptimphelter is on his way to earning his Masters in Business from John Carroll's Graduate School.

Jon Tomcufcik had an all around effort this season on offense. The tight end helped bolster the offensive line in the Blue Streaks run game and was a fine target in the passing attack as well. Tomcufcik's impact was crucial in JCU's high stakes rivalry game this season vs Marietta, where he caught a touchdown pass to help seal the game for the Blue Streaks in the 4th quarter. The fifth year is pursuing marketing in John Carroll's Boler College of Business.

Matt Wrather is no stranger to the honor of Academic All-District, as he received this recognition in both 2022 and 2023. The senior was the Blue Streaks anchor on their stout offensive line at center, starting every game this season. In addition to Academic All-District, Wrather was named as an AFCA All-American, the OAC Ken Wable Offensive Lineman of the Year, and All-OAC First Team for his efforts on the field. Off the field, Wrather garnered acknowledgement for his work in the community as he was named to the distinguished Allstate Good Works Team in 2024. In the classroom, Wrather is studying business and has been selected as a member of the Academic All-OAC team in each of the last three seasons.
