Men's Soccer Stumbles at Home to DePauw

The defending NCAC Tournament Champs set the tone with a couple early goals

UNIVERSITY HEIGHTS – Today's result was not what the Blue Streaks were hoping for.

Against the reigning North Coast Athletic Conference Tournament Champions, John Carroll Men's Soccer scuffled on defense and could not convert on some promising chances.

DePauw University upended the Blue Streaks at Don Shula Stadium today, 3-0.

The hosts came out of the gates flat-footed and the Tigers took full advantage. Sebastian Leon sent a gorgeous pass into the box in the 11th minute, which Evan Diebold bodied to the foot of Braden Murphey. The South Bend, Indiana native wasted no time in burying the chance, marking the first goal of the season for the Second Team All-NCAC pick, but far from the last.

Murphey struck again in the 18th minute. Leon streaked down the left flank and centered a beautiful ball to Murphey. The junior left-footed a shot underneath the JCU goalie for insurance.

JCU responded with a promising look that floated over the cage, but nothing came of the brief slice of momentum.

In the 27th minute, Head Coach Dejan Mladenovic '06, '25G opted for a full shift change, subbing out everyone except for the goalie. The second line played better, keeping the DePauw attack at bay. But the Blue Streaks could not take advantage of a couple solid opportunities.

Following what was likely a spirited halftime speech, the Blue Streaks came out of the second half much better prepared. Louis Roseberry clanked a shot off the post in the 55th minute, but again, nothing came of JCU's run.

Murphey salted the game with a hat trick in the 73rd minute, stemming the tide of any JCU comeback attempts.
