Seniors Score Early and Late to Help Women's Soccer Beat Wooster

Emily Patrzyk scored in the 4th minute and Emma West provided the game-winner in the 82nd minute

UNIVERSITY HEIGHTS – Two North Coast Athletic Conference matches, two wins for John Carroll Women's Soccer.

The Blue Streaks scored early and late to secure a significant home victory over the College of Wooster.

With the conquest, John Carroll advances to 8-3-1 on the year thanks to goals by two JCU seniors.

You couldn't ask for a better start for JCU. Just four minutes after "Crazy Frog" blared over the loudspeakers, the Blue Streaks gave fans a reason to go crazy. Abby Walker swung a ball to the Scots' right flank. Andrea Quintero Delgado sent in a gorgeous ball into the box, and Emily Patrzyk met the ball perfectly with a header to beat the keeper left side.

Ahead 1-0 early, the Blue Streaks were feeling good and enjoying much of the possession. The Fighting Scots did get some chances, including a shot on goal that Madeline Martin grabbed in the 21st minute. Wooster managed a shot on goal again in the 30th minute, but Martin stood strong.

Lucy Altieri managed a chance in the 42nd minute, but JCU's advantage stayed at 1-0 heading into the break.

Abby Smith managed a shot on goal in the 47th minute, but nothing came of the chance. Overall, it was a fairly eventless start to the half.

In the 70th minute, Wooster changed that. Off a Kelsey Maley throw-in, Julia Struck tapped the ball to Caitlin Martin. The sophomore surprised Madeline Martin for the equalizer.

The Blue Streaks answered in huge fashion in the 82nd minute.

Emily Patrzyk lined up a corner kick on the far side and provided a perfectly struck ball into the box. The ball bounded off a couple of players before finding the foot of Kathryn Shaffer. Through traffic, the veteran got just enough of it with her right foot, and the ball tapped off of Emma West and into the back left corner of the net. It marked West's first goal of the season.

Wooster did not threaten with any significant chances down the stretch, as the Blue Streaks hung on for the bigtime NCAC win.

Coach Mike Marich liked the way the team bounced back late in the second half to get the win.

"The girls were able to put it all together to get the win," Marich mentioned. "It is always great to get a conference win and we are looking forward to these next opportunities ahead."
