Volleyball Celebrates Senior Day in Style With 3-0 Sweep Over Oberlin

UNIVERSITY HEIGHTS, OHIO - The John Carroll volleyball team honored its three seniors Haley Nicholson, Kendra Dziubinski, and Deja Whitten pregame, as the three would be key contributors to a 3-0 sweep over NCAC foe Oberlin. The Blue Streaks rebounded nicely, following a tough five-set loss to Case Western Reserve on Wednesday night. JCU has now won eight of its last nine matches, four of which have come in conference.

The first set was the most competitive, as the Yeowomen and Blue Streaks would trade points for majority of the set but John Carroll came away winning 28-26. Early in the set, the Blue and Gold showed its all-around talent as Whitten, Dziubinski, and Natalie Glowe each recorded a kill in three-straight points. With the score tight, Hailey Williams had a beautiful serve, which forced an Oberlin timeout and the Tony DeCarlo Varsity Center erupted. Dziubinski sealed the deal moments later with a strong kill.

In the second set, JCU would use a 7-1 run in the middle of the set to pull ahead and build a comfortable lead. Later in the set, the Blue and Gold would score five unanswered points and forced the Yeowomen to burn two timeouts. John Carroll went up 2-0 in the match with a 25-17 victory.

John Carroll set the tempo scoring in the third set by scoring the first four points, before winning 25-14. The Blue Streaks went on a few mini runs of 4-1, 3-1 and would ultimately pull away and the Blue Streak faithful were loud and proud. JCU would have three service aces in the set to close the match out.

Glowe led the way with 14 kills, while Dziubinski had eight and Whitten tallied six. Nicholson and Tess Humphrey each had 14 assists

Next up is a pivotal match as the Blue Streaks travel to Springfield, Ohio for a match with Wittenberg Wednesday night at 7 p.m. The two teams sit atop of the conference standings and this match will hold massive tournament implications with three NCAC matches left on the schedule.
