Women's Soccer Loses First NCAC Match at Kenyon, but Remains Atop NCAC Standings

The Blue Streaks fell victim to a goal in the 27th minute to lose an afternoon match

GAMBIER, Ohio – For the first time, John Carroll Women's Soccer tasted defeat in the North Coast Athletic Conference on Wednesday.

The Blue Streaks played even for much of Wednesday's matinee match at Kenyon College. But the Owls emerged with a 1-0 goal.

A first-half tally marked the difference in the contest, as despite some JCU chances in the second half, the Blue Streaks could not overcome the deficit on the grass Mavec Field.

But despite the loss, JCU stands atop the NCAC standings with 9 points and a 3-1 record with three matches to play.

John Carroll notched some chances in the early goings, with three off-target shots in the opening 10 minutes. After some subs, Kenyon started to gain traction. In the 28th minute, the Owls broke through.

Kenyon's Margot Kuller sent in a beautiful ball that bounced on the edge of the box over the head of the Blue Streak defender. Claire Pruner raced along the left edge and fired an arching shot to beat the keeper for the 1-0 lead. It was a fantastic leading pass as Pruner won the race to the ball and sent it home.

Despite some JCU substitutions, Kenyon enjoyed the better of the play down the stretch, as Madeline Martin needed to make a pair of saves.

The Blue Streaks tested the Owl keeper, including with a thrilling Andrea Quintero Delgado off the woodwork in the 61st minute.

JCU's lone shot on goal occurred in the 67th minute. Gracie Villwock took a quick shot after winning a 50/50 ball, but the Owls were equal to the task. JCU tabbed a pair of other shots, but nothing on net. Martin made more saves down the stretch, finishing with 6 saves.

The teams stood even in shots, 10-10, but Kenyon tallied 7 shots on goal to JCU's one.
