Returning from a Long Break, Volleyball Rolls Past Kenyon

The Blue Streaks sit second in the NCAC with one match to play

GAMBIER, Ohio – Following an 8-day break between matches, John Carroll Volleyball returned to the win column.

In a midweek trip to Kenyon College, the Blue Streaks picked up a nice North Coast Athletic Conference victory.

John Carroll advanced to 5-1 in NCAC play (16-8 overall) with a 3-1 win over the Owls by set scores of 25-20, 25-15, 19-25, 25-10.

Efficiency was the trademark of the opening set for John Carroll. The Blue Streaks' front line was especially excellent, avoiding any errors in a strong set. Natalie Glowe was particularly dynamic in the first set with four kills on her own. John Carroll fired up a 15-8 lead, causing Kenyon to burn a timeout. As the Blue Streaks rotated in youngsters as the set continued, the Owls tried to keep it close, but a Glowe kill concluded the set.

John Carroll dominated the early goings of the second set. The visitors burst out to a 10-4 advantage, leading to a Kenyon timeout, and then furthered the lead to 16-6 before another Kenyon timeout. Down the stretch, Hailey Williams put it away with nice kills to ensure the Blue Streaks secured the two-set lead.

Kenyon figured things out in the third set, playing more aggressively up front. After JCU snuck ahead, 10-9, the Owls used a 7-point run to take control, and never relented.

But in the fourth set, the Blue Streaks wasted no time in putting away the Big Red. A pair of Kendra Dziubinski kills helped the visitors fire up a dominant 17-7 lead. Attack errors hurt the Owls' comeback chances and a Dziubinski kill finished things off.

Natalie Glowe led the offensive efforts with 14 kills as part of a JCU frontline that finished with a .289 attack percentage. Tess Humphrey did nice work in setting her up with 18 assists while adding 13 digs. Olivia Mogyordy nabbed 17 digs.
