Blue Streaks Lose To Denison In Final Regular Season Game At Home

UNIVERSITY HEIGHTS, Ohio — With a chance to win the conference with a victory the John Carroll Blue Streaks (10-5-1, 4-2 NCAC) dropped their penultimate game of the season.

The Blue Streaks lost at Don Shula Stadium to the Denison Big Red (7-4-5, 2-1-3 NCAC) by a score of 1-0.

John Carroll came into this match winning 10 of their last 12 matchups and on the doorstep of the first North Coast Athletic Conference championship in school history. In order to do so, they would have to defeat the Big Red for the first time in program history.

The Blue Streaks had an early chance but a great stop stopped the attack. Both squads were getting a feel for the game but a foul on Julia Ciura gave the Big Red a free kick from the 40 yard line. Reily Brinley toed the line and sent it into the box. The ball found the foot of junior Mara McGlone who got it past the JCU keeper for the opening goal.

Almost immediately after the Denison goal, Ella Palmer broke through the JCU defense with her eyes on the net but sent it high, keeping the Blue Streaks within one. After a foul from the Big Red of the other end, JCU attempted to strike back off a free kick but the shot attempt from Andrea Quintero Delgado went over the crossbar.

Denison continued to put pressure on John Carroll with a couple of attacks, but their defense held strong to keep it at one. The Big Red kept up their attack, almost scoring a goal with 10 minutes to play, but an offsides call kept JCU alive. Again, nothing came from either side offensively so the early goal was all she wrote for the first half as Denison led 1-0 after 45 minutes.

Denison outshot the Blue Streaks by a staggering 8-1 with two shots on goal. John Carroll also led the foul battle with four compared to the Big Red's two.

John Carroll came out of the half looking to answer, as just after the five minute mark a nifty move from Emily Patrzyk gave an opportunity for Emma West by Denison goalkeeper Molly Noga made a nice save to keep JCU scoreless. The Blue Streaks had another set piece snuffed out by Denison with 28 minutes left.

The Blue Streaks were running out of time and got a golden opportunity to score but a crazy defensive effort by Denison to stop three JCU shot attempts in quick succession once again kept them JCU of the net. John Carroll had their chances down the stretch but could not find the equalizer falling at home.

JCU had their opportunities in the second half with seven shots compared to Denison's three, but four saves from Molly Noga kept them scoreless and gave the Springboro native her sixth win of the season.
