Volleyball Snags Sixth Straight Win, Beating DePauw on the Road

The Blue Streaks handled business in Indiana

GREENCASTLE, Ind. – A success-filled stretch marches along for John Carroll Volleyball.

The Blue Streaks picked up a sixth straight victory, a second in North Coast Athletic Conference play.

Unfazed by a lengthy road trip, the Blue Streaks stormed by DePauw University in four sets at the Neal Fieldhouse: 18-25, 25-22, 25-20, 25-23.

DePauw opened up the match by sneaking ahead, 15-10. Mary Kate Sheehan threatened to get JCU back in the match with three straight kills. But the Blue Streaks couldn't string together a run, as DePauw ran away late with it.

After the Tigers constructed a 10-6 lead, the Blue Streaks tied it thanks to a couple Grace Jones kills. The teams traded jabs, though DePauw threatened to steal it late, holding a 21-18 lead. But the Blue Streaks dominated down the way, with Jones authoring a pair of kills and Kendra Dziubinski tabbing a pair of aces to spark a 7-1 run to close out the set, 25-22.

JCU constructed a 7-2 lead and never again trailed. While DePauw trimmed the deficit to one point, the Tigers committed too many errors to stay in it late. Sheehan also played well late to guide the attack.

The teams played it close in the early goings of the fourth set, with DePauw sneaking ahead, 10-9. Following a 5-1 JCU run, DePauw fired back with a 5-1 run of their own. The Tigers once again appeared poised to be in good shape late, holding a 22-19 advantage. But a 6-1 JCU run showcased the visitors' killer instinct, highlighted by a 4-point run to end it, keyed by Dziubinski, Williams, and Sheehan kills.

Sheehan enjoyed a heck of a day, finishing with a career-high 20 kills. Jones (12) and Williams (11) also hit double digits. Tess Humphrey topped the team with 28 assists, adding 16 digs. Olivia Mogyordy stood above all with 22 digs.
