Men's Swimming & Diving Wins East Michigan Quad

Jacob Florio and the Blue Streaks impressed at Kalamazoo

KALAMAZOO, Mich. – A busy Halloween weekend delivered a strong victory for John Carroll Men's Swimming & Diving.

At the East Michigan Quad, the Blue Streaks secured first place out of four teams with 1,115 points, ahead of Hope College (857), Wabash College (760), and host Kalamazoo (358)

Results

John Carroll solidified strong results in the relays. To start off with the 200 Free Relay, Cameron Cook, Nathan Reigle, Patrick Branch, and Dominic Falcon compiled a dominant winning time of 1:26.09. JCU experienced little difficulty in winning the 400 Medley as David Miller, Alex Gallagher, Michel Vertikoff, and Branch dominated the event with a time of 3:29.05. In the 400 Free, Branch, Falcon, Miller, and Cook worked together for a time of 3:08.91 to take the cake. 

As to be expected, Joe Nadur did exceptionally well. The star lapped the competition in the 400 IM, carding a time of 4:08.99. The veteran did the trick again in the 200 Breaststroke with a tally of 2:08.94. 

Vertikoff continues his fantastic rookie year with an eye-opening effort of 52.16 in the 100 Butterfly. Mario Bondy followed him up. Plus, the first year touched the wall in 52.86 in the 100 Backstroke to secure a second win. This time, Miller and Jacob Florio backed him up in second and third. 

Florio took a turn winning the 200 Backstroke, impressing coaches and teammates alike with a dominant time of 1:51.52. He'll be one to watch this year. 

In the sprints, Cook did excellent work individually, which included a win in the 50 Free (21.83). He was followed by Falcon and Yuriy Gorobchuk to sweep the podium. 

Next Up
The Blue Streaks will make their official home debut in the Johnson Natatorium, hosting Heidelberg University on Friday.
