Women's Basketball Wards Off Pioneers in Tuesday Night Victory

The Blue Streaks constructed a first-half lead and never relented vs. Marietta

UNIVERSITY HEIGHTS – Although the teams are no longer conference rivals—John Carroll is now competing in the North Coast Athletic Conference after departing the Ohio Athletic Conference this year—there was still a familiar edge to the matchup against Marietta, who remains an OAC member after years of meeting as league opponents.

John Carroll put together a balanced offensive night and used a strong start to secure a 68–52 victory. Behind efficient shooting, timely threes, and key contributions off the bench, the Blue Streaks controlled the pace from start to finish.

Senior Carly Perusek delivered a standout performance, going a perfect 8-for-8 from the field and finishing with a game-high 17 points along with 7 rebounds. Bella Houillion added a major spark from beyond the arc, knocking down 4 threes on her way to 15 points.

Off the bench, sophomore Nicci Finazzo chipped in 10 points and 5 rebounds, while Kaylie McKenney added efficient interior minutes with 6 points and 7 boards. Carmen Heuker also provided steady production, finishing with 8 points and a trio of made free throws.

John Carroll put together a balanced offensive performance, finishing 24-of-55 from the field (43.6%), 8-of-22 from three (36.4%), and 12-of-20 at the line (60%).

The Blue Streaks opened strong, shooting 52.9% in the first quarter behind three early triples to set the tone. The second quarter cooled slightly, but JCU stayed efficient from deep, hitting 3-of-4 from beyond the arc and going a perfect 4-for-4 at the free-throw line.

Out of halftime, JCU regained rhythm with a 50% shooting effort in the third quarter, attacking the paint and earning nine free-throw attempts. Despite a slower fourth quarter (30% from the floor), the early offensive surge provided enough cushion to close out the game.

Defensively, the Blue Streaks held the opponent to under 40% shooting in three of four quarters and limited their perimeter scoring until late in the game.
Marietta was led by Amelia Uhrig's 10 points, while Kendall Sury and Ava Heller each added 7.
