#23 Men's Swimming & Diving Loses Dual to #3 Denison at Home

The Blue Streaks could not contain the Big Red

UNIVERSITY HEIGHTS – For a second consecutive week, John Carroll Men's Swimming & Diving raced in the familiar waters of the Johnson Natatorium.

Unlike last week, however, the Blue Streaks ran into difficult competition.

In a showdown between CSCAA top 25 teams, #3 Denison University handed #23 John Carroll a 167-107 loss in University Heights on Saturday afternoon, though JCU did have some highlights.

Results

John Carroll notched a second-place effort in the 200 Yard Medley Relay to start the day, as David Miller, Alex Gallagher, Michael Vertikoff, and Patrick Branch combined for a time of 1:32.65.

One of the top highlights of the day occurred in the 100 Breaststroke. Bart Kubis grabbed a great win in the event, soaring for a time of 56.38. Gallagher followed up closely with a runner-up effort of 57.57.

Kubis did it again with another bigtime conquest in the 200 Breaststroke. The star dominated the field with a victorious time of 2:05.40, two seconds better than the competition.

Joe Nadur did strongly in the 200 IM. The veteran tallied a time of 1:55.36, good for third place. The senior also notched fourth in the 500 Free.

Cameron Cook impressed in the 200 Free with a second-place finish by a nose, clocking in at 1:40.33. Cook nabbed fourth in both the 50 Free and 100 Free, as well.

Vertikoff's nice rookie season continued with a third-place mark of 1:58.30 in the 200 Butterfly. The first year tabbed third in the 100 Fly as well with a time of 51.90.

Florio and Miller went 3-4 in the 200 Backstroke, as well.

To finish the day, Branch, Kubis, Yuriy Gorobchuk, and Cook combined for a mark of 1:25.70 to rep JCU well in the 200 Free Relay.

The Blue Streaks will take part in Cleveland State's Magnus Cup from November 20-22.
