SPRINGFIELD, OHIO - The John Carroll volleyball team made its presence known in the North Coast Athletic Conference (NCAC) by making it to the tournament championship in the first year as a member of the league. Sadly, the Blue and Gold were on the wrong side of a sweep (25-17, 25-20, 25-22) against Wittenberg, but fought the entire afternoon and kept each set competitive.
Wittenberg has won three of the last four NCAC tournament championships and a team who is known for success in the conference and at the NCAA level.
In the first set, Wittenberg jumped out to an early lead and would not allow a big JCU run to cut into the deficit.
The second set, John Carroll and Wittenberg would trade points early. It would be at the midway part with the score tied 14-14 that the Tigers would score five unanswered to take a strong edge.
The last set of the match would be the closest to securing a victory, as JCU jumped out to a 10-3 edge. Mary Kate Sheehan, Natalie Glowe, and Kendra Dziubinski all contributed to the run with at least a kill.
However, the Tigers would put together a fierce comeback and came away with the conference title.
Glowe led the team with eight kills, while Tess Humphrey contributed 11 assists. Olivia Mogyordy did a stout job by recording 14 digs.
JCU's season comes to a conclusion, but the Blue and Gold put together an impressive campaign by finishing 21-9, with a 6-1 conference record.
